Though it is only the beginning of the week, I have been thinking for several weeks about our final project. In class today inspiration struck me right in the face on a topic that I could really deeply connect to. The ideas I originally had were things like; the concept of the “More Love Letters” website, letters written by celebrities, and just love letters over the years. Before class today I was leaning mostly towards the celebrity letters, until I stumbled upon the idea of letters in pop culture, specifically pop culture of our, Gen Z, era. This is a topic I am well versed in as a member of gen z who is deeply into all kinds of media. Personally, I am a huge music fan, my family watches movies and shows together frequently, I enjoy reading, and I have a strong social media presence. All of these factors combined made the topic of pop culture references to letters a promising point of focus. I thought I would hammer in allusions and references to letters and direct usage of letters and epistolary fiction. As well as I would zero in on topics such as music, movies, television, and books. Not to mention letters people write themselves in typical day to day life, such as diary entries, letters to santa, and email (which is pretty much typed letters). Though it is a broad spectrum of ideas, I feel that I can connect them all together in a cohesive way that makes everyone understand my thought process on this topic. In simpler words, I am trying to prove that even though we have been focusing a lot on letter writing in times outside of our own, the idea of writing to one another and communicating through letter format is shown and done often in the lives of gen z people.
