Class of Careers

This week the activity that not only interested me the most but excited me the most, was the O*NET Interest Profiler career interest quiz. I have taken more career quizzes than I can count throughout school and they always helped lead the way I was planning to go with my future job. However, I was really interested in what my answers for this specific quiz would be since I feel that I have changed a lot as a person since I got to Muhlenberg, so my answers may have become different. While taking this quiz I felt very drawn towards the more artsy tasks and tasks that involved helping people, rather than the tasks that were described as working with hands and very physical. This clearly led to my results involving a heavy interest in social and artistic careers, as opposed to my 0 interest in “realistic” careers. As I went further into the quiz, it asked me to select a level of preparation for a job. When answering that question I knew, as much as I wanted to say minimal preparation, that in most careers I enjoy the idea of having, I need to have a large amount of preparation. So of course, I selected level 4 on the preparation scale. Level 4 I considered as a high school diploma, a bachelor’s degree or higher, and training. Going into this assignment, I knew I wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher and work in the performing arts, but I wanted to see what a good side job is for all the long breaks I would have as a teacher. Thankfully, this quiz not only proved that I would be strongly suited to the teaching profession as well as being a choreographer and theater teacher but also gave me some other ideas to look into. These consisted of working in child care working as a secretary or filling out paperwork for a company. Both of these types of jobs interest me, as well as I have experience in both, so I can say that I would enjoy adding that to my future plans. All in all this class gave me reassurance that the profession I am seeking to be a part of is definitely suited for my likes and personality type.
